Cowboys was the first film I made, around 2010. It came out of the workshops I attended at The Actors Temple — specifically the lessons of the Meisner Technique — and was made by stealing rehearsal time there, sneaking in when no one was around, because I couldn’t afford to pay for it. That experience would go on to shape the ethos of my own acting studio, Actors East, opened in 2018.
It was made for under £1,000 and taught me everything I needed to know about filmmaking. I wish I’d known how bloody good it was when I made it; I am very proud. It contains within it the founding principle upon which the rest of my work as a writer/director is built.
